Meeting God

Meeting God

Have you ever met someone famous? Have you met someone that is really special to you that no one could replace? Well, I would like to write about how you can meet someone that is far more famous, powerful, and influential than anyone you have ever met. His name is God.

God is your loving creator. (Genesis 1:1) “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:27) “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

God has created each one of us for a specific reason. We all have a purpose in our lives, and that purpose will bring glory to God. One of His eternal purposes is to have fellowship with His creation. However, we must realize what is separating us from Him and how we can enter into a personal relationship with God, our Creator.

We have rebelled against God. Our sins have caused us to separate from our Creator. (Isaiah 59:2) “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

You may say, “Wait a minute… I am not a sinner. I have never killed any one or gone to jail.” Dear friend, the Bible says that there in none righteous. (Romans 3:10) “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” You may say that you are religious, that you go to church, give money, and try to do good things. But have you entered into a personal relationship with God?

You see, when Adam was in the Garden of Eden, he walked with God in unbroken fellowship. But he disobeyed God and from then on, the sin nature has been passed down through all generations. (Romans 5:12) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” The death spoken of here is spiritual death and separation from God. Even if Adam and Eve never sinned, we are so selfish that we would choose to sin anyway. (Job 15:16) “How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?”

So, our sins have separated us from God, our Creator. If you have never met God then the Bible says that you are spiritually dead. It was God’s plan to have fellowship with mankind, but mankind rebelled and so there must be a consequence for rebelling against the Almighty God.

The Consequence of our sins. (Romans 5:18) “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation;…” Because of our sinful nature, we all must face the consequence of our sins. This consequence is eternal condemnation, eternal death and separation from God, Hell and the lake of fire. You see dear friend; God is holy. He must judge sin. You may say, “Why would a loving God send anyone to the lake of fire?” God does not send people to hell; people send themselves to hell by their unbelief. God has given everyone a free will to choose Him or to reject Him. God cries out for you to come to Him. He wants you to spend eternity with Him more than anything. He loves you, and there is proof that He loves you. That love was displayed when He took on the form of man, humbled Himself and came down to this earth to make the sacrifice for all of our sins. (Philippians 2:5-8) “…Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God… made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

The Sacrifice for our sins. (1 Timothy 3:16) “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” Our own creator came down from heaven in the form of man, and His name was Jesus Christ. The Bible calls Him the Son of God. He was born of a virgin and conceived of the Holy Ghost. (1John 4:10) “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Propitiation means that the consequence for our sins is satisfied, but only if we receive the sacrifice. The only way to enter into a personal relationship with God is to believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Savior, and He alone can save you from the consequence of your sin. (John 3:16-18) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” So you may say…”How do I receive this sacrifice? How can I meet God?”

Meeting God. You must confess to God that you have rebelled against Him; confess your sins against Him; and confess your need of the Savior. All of this time you have been spiritually dead; now it is time to have a new life! Now it is time to enter into a personal relationship with your loving creator. (2 Corinthians 6:2) …behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. God waits with His arms open pleading with your soul to repent. You must take all of your dependence off of yourself for salvation, and place all of your faith in Jesus Christ alone. (Galatians 3:26) “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” All of this time you have been empty; looking for fulfillment in yourself, in sin, in money, or in entertainment. You may have met many people in your life. Some may have made good impressions on you and some may have had much influence on you; but nothing can change you as much as when you meet God. You will never forget the day that you met God. No one else or nothing can give you satisfaction like God can. He is your creator. His plan was to have a relationship and fellowship with you from the beginning, but you have rebelled. Will you come to Him now? Will you believe on His Son Jesus, and receive Him as your Lord and Savior? If you truly want to meet God you can pray and talk to him yourself; as long as you mean it in your heart and receive Him into your life. Here is a sample prayer that you can read as you pray to God:

Dear God,

I realize that I have rebelled. I am dead spiritually and empty inside. My sins have separated me from you. I am sorry for my sins. Please forgive me. I believe that Christ died for my sins. I want to repent and start a new life with Christ as the Lord of it. I’ve been so lonely without you God. I want to enter into a personal relationship with you. Please save me from eternal condemnation. I want to know you God. Please answer my prayer and change my life. Thank you. In Jesus name, Amen.

What Now? If you prayed to God and truly meant it, then you have just met God. This is the single greatest moment in your entire life. This is an experience that you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life because you have just met the most powerful, loving, holy, and just one of all. You have just met God!

Now you must continue to grow in your relationship with God. That comes from daily prayer and Bible reading and church attendance. Meeting God is the most important thing that has ever happened to you! Continue to strengthen your relationship with God by spending time with Him and His people. Stay away from The Devil’s places and his people, as they will only pull you away from God. God has a specific calling and specific purpose for your life. God will lead you in your life as you trust in Him and surrender daily to His will.

In Christ’s love,

Brother Shawn F. Curtis
