TAKING THE GLORIOUS
GOSPEL TO THE PEOPLE OF BRAZIL
“to open their eyes”
November/December
2011
Here we are–it’s December–what a great year this has been!
Recapping some recent events, here’s an update on what’s been going on in this
part of the world.
Discipling
Every week is so full in managing time at the public school,
Bible studies, music lessons, kid’s activities, ect. Lately, it’s been literally one thing to the
next–and it has been humbling to see the Lord bless our efforts.
Here’s a few names to remember in prayer:
Thaciana is the
mom of one of the church kid’s friend.
We (Vera and I) have been meeting weekly with her for several
weeks. She enjoys the Bible studies yet
hasn’t given a clear testimony of salvation.
Bruna received
the Lord as her Saviour a couple months ago.
She also really enjoys doing Bible studies and has encouraged her sister
to participate with her. We haven’t had
the joy of seeing her in church but it’s the next step we are praying she will take.
Tina–I’ve share
some about her before. Her son Lucas participated in the public school project
and after meeting her she shared her interest in learning more about the Bible
and began attending services with her husband and daughter. Due to a recent accident with her leg, she is
basically bed-ridden until healed; however, she has wanted to continue
studying.
Tina is a blessing; she invites her friends to services and
we have seen her friend, Lurdes, come several times. In fact,
Lurdes brought her daughter and granddaughter, Ariane, to a service. Ariane happens to be one of my recorder
students at the school. J
Awesome, huh?
Discipling Young
Teens
We have a fairly strong core of young teens that are saved
and faithful to services. Aside from
regular services, they have faithfully participated in a Bible study before the
Wednesday night service. The majority of
these teens take piano lessons, participated in the Theory/Music Reading
project started back in January, participate in the teen/kids’choir and the
adult choir. This year they participated in the cantata culminating a very busy
year!
To my great joy, I got to experience an “ahhh—finally!!”
moment: instead of going outside to play ball…the kids got around the piano and
began using the skills they have developed these past years: two pianists
playing, two playing the recorder, one on the violin, others singing…..what a
blessing to see them of their own accord put together a song for special music.
Two saved in the
Public School Ministry
“I don’t believe in hell. I’m a Jehovah witness.”
Camila, our JW
teen, shared her beliefs and we shared God’s word with her. We talked about hell, about Jesus coming as
the Savior of the world; we shared the gospel with her. She listened carefully and asked several
questions. After some time, Thais, who was leading the conversation, asked her
what she thought–did she have any questions? No, she didn’t have any
questions; in fact, she said she understood more clearly now. Would she continue going to the JW church?
“No,” she shook her head. Did she believe that Jesus Christ was God and came to
die for her sins? Her answer was yes, she did.
She then affirmed that she wanted to receive Him as her Savior. She did and we rejoiced so much in her
decision!
The other who was saved is Viviane. I shared about her in the update “November
Blessing.” Please pray for her and
Camila’s spiritual growth.
Cantata + 30 visitors
+ Baptism
On the first Sunday of this month the church presented a
much-practiced cantata–I’m trying to find the English title but have not been
to successful–it’s called “A Frente, Dois Caminhos.” It was a blessing to see everything come
together. The thirty visitors filled up
the church–amen! What a blessing these were able to hear the gospel.
Four were baptized and one was Lucas, the first person from
the public school ministry to put his faith in Jesus Christ. It was a special night!
Trip Home
This Friday I will be flying home to spend the holidays with
my family. Rafael and Susana (my brother
and sister-in-law) are expecting a baby boy right around Christmas so we will
be mostly in North Carolina this season.
I appreciate your prayers as I travel! Also, please be praying that a
vehicle would come available for me to use while I am home.
Thank you all for your support and prayers. Thank you for allowing me to be an extension
of your ministry. It is an honor and blessing to be able to minister here in
Brazil. God is good!
