Why Berean

Duck, Duck, Duck, Goose!

It’s a great game to play as a child, but a poor way to choose a church. Many people feel that choosing a church is just a gamble, just try a few and see if they have what you want. Then you pick the one that kinda fits the best.

So you look at Berean and what do you see? A little church, a few small buildings, on an out of the way road in Shelby? A church that’s no different than all the other church’s in Shelby? That’s not what we see. In fact, we decided that if we were just like every other church in town, we would all leave and go to the other churches in town.

What if you found a church that was just different? What if you started to look for more in a church? What if you started to expect more out of church? Does that mean that we are “contemporary”? No. Does that mean that we are “traditional”? Yes and well… no. Most churches go “contemporary” because they believe that is what people want. I don’t believe this is true. Most “traditional” people never change anything, because they are afraid of being labeled as “contemporary”. I believe this is inadvisable.

So what is Berean? We are a church that preaches and teaches the Word of God, we have not compromised on music or standards or anything else, and yet are neither contemporary or traditional. It’s one of those things you have to see to understand. Not just Sunday Morning either, if you only come on Sunday morning (which starts at 10:00am) you will only catch a glimpse of who we are.

If you’re tired of the old “Sing, Sit, Listen, Leave” then maybe its time you learned more.

Oh by the way, before you ask, “Is this a black church or a white church.” The answer is both. Our pastor, is African American, our choir director is Caucasian,  our Wednesday night song leader is Brazilian, our piano players are  Caucasian, Brazilian, African American and Mixed. Our congregation is all of the above. On any given Sunday we are 35% one35% one 20% one and 10% other. Hard to believe at a church in the south??? Told you were different!
